How to Receive Amazon KDP Payments in Nigeria: What Your Bank Account Must Support

You can have a perfectly valid USD account and still see Amazon KDP reject it.

The problem may not be the account number.

KDP looks at where the bank account is located, whether the bank information can be validated and, in some cases, whether the company managing the account participates in Amazon’s Payment Service Provider Program. So before opening another USD account or repeatedly changing your KDP bank details, check the account itself against Amazon’s current rules.

Amazon KDP payments in Nigeria: the short answer

Yes, Nigerian authors can receive Amazon KDP royalties, but the payment method available to you depends heavily on the location of the bank account you add to KDP.

As of September 2026, Amazon’s payment table shows NGN wire transfer for Nigerian bank accounts across many KDP marketplaces. Direct deposit is shown as unavailable for Nigerian bank locations in that table. Amazon.pl and Amazon.se are currently listed as unavailable for Nigerian bank accounts.  There is another layer if your account is managed by a payment company rather than opened directly with a deposit-taking bank. Amazon treats those accounts under its Payment Service Provider, or PSP, rules.

As of September 2026

  • Amazon chooses available KDP payment methods partly according to the location of your bank account.

  • For a bank located in Nigeria, Amazon currently lists NGN wire transfer for many marketplaces rather than direct deposit.

  • Amazon has separate rules for bank accounts managed by Payment Service Providers.

  • Since August 1, 2026, Amazon has stopped making KDP payments to accounts using a non-participating PSP or a participating PSP where required KYC verification has not been completed.

Those details matter much more than whether a provider markets an account as “virtual,” “global” or “USD.”

A USD account should solve more than one payment problem. If you also earn from freelance clients, remote work, or other supported global income sources, walllet.com gives eligible users a route to receive money, hold digital dollars, spend online, and cash out to naira.

Can Nigerian authors receive Amazon KDP royalties?

Yes. The important distinction is between three things that are easy to mix up:

Your country of residence
Where you live and the country information associated with your KDP account.

Your bank location
The country in which the bank account you give Amazon is located.

Your payment currency and payment rail
The currency and method Amazon supports for that bank location.

Those are not automatically the same.

For example, Amazon’s current table says that a Nigerian bank location can receive NGN wire payments for many marketplaces. A US bank location, by contrast, is listed for USD direct deposit across the marketplaces shown in Amazon’s table. A UK bank location is listed for direct deposit in GBP/EUR.

Comparison visual showing the difference between the author’s residence, the bank account location, and the payment method or currency used by Amazon KDP.

That does not mean a Nigerian author can add any US or UK account and expect it to work. The account still has to be eligible, correctly issued, correctly entered and acceptable under Amazon’s bank and PSP rules.

How does Amazon decide how it can pay you?

Amazon’s own KDP help page states that payment methods differ according to your bank’s location. In practice, check these separately:

  1. Your KDP account information.

  2. The location of the bank account.

  3. The payment methods Amazon supports for that bank location.

  4. Whether the account is opened directly with a deposit-taking bank or managed by a PSP.

  5. Whether your KDP account is eligible to use that PSP.

  6. Whether the provider has completed any required KYC checks.

This is why searching for “best USD account for KDP Nigeria” can produce misleading answers. A USD-denominated account solves only the currency part of the problem. It does not automatically solve eligibility.

What payment methods does KDP currently offer for Nigerian bank accounts?

For bank location: Nigeria, Amazon’s September 2026 payment table currently shows:

Amazon can change this table, so check the current KDP Payment Options page before opening an account specifically for royalties. For comparison, Amazon currently lists USD direct deposit for US bank locations and GBP/EUR direct deposit for UK bank locations.  Again, the operative phrase is bank location, not “the author lives in Nigeria.”

Does Amazon KDP accept a virtual USD account?

Sometimes, but “virtual account” is not the test Amazon uses.

Amazon distinguishes between an account opened directly with a deposit-taking bank and an account managed by a Payment Service Provider. Amazon says you are using a PSP when the bank account entered in KDP is managed by a payment company rather than directly issued to you by a deposit-taking bank.

So this question: “Is it a virtual USD account?” should become: “Who actually issued and manages this account, and does Amazon allow me to use that type of account?” Two USD accounts can look almost identical to the user and still be treated differently by KDP.

What is Amazon’s Payment Service Provider Program?

A Payment Service Provider, or PSP, is a payment company that manages the bank account details you use rather than the account being opened directly with a traditional deposit-taking bank. Amazon’s Payment Service Provider Program controls which PSP-issued accounts eligible KDP authors can use to receive royalties. Amazon currently says:

  • KDP authors who are eligible to use a PSP may use a participating PSP or an account opened directly with a deposit-taking bank.

  • Some KDP authors may be told that they can use only an account opened directly with a deposit-taking bank.

  • If Amazon asks you to replace an ineligible account and you do not do so, royalty payments and the ability to publish can be affected.

What changed on August 1, 2026?

Amazon tightened the practical consequences of its PSP rules.

As of August 1, 2026, Amazon says it stopped making payments to KDP accounts that use a PSP that does not participate in the program, or that have not completed the required KYC verification with their participating PSP. If you have been using the same payout setup for months, do not assume that historical success proves the account still meets the current rules.

Check your Getting Paid section in KDP for warnings or required action.

How do you know whether your USD account is a PSP account?

Do not rely on the logo shown inside the app. Ask the provider, or inspect the account documentation, and determine:

  • Who issued the account?

  • Who legally holds or manages it?

  • Is the issuer a deposit-taking bank?

  • Is another payment company sitting between you and the bank?

  • Does Amazon treat that company as a PSP?

  • If it is a PSP, does it currently participate in Amazon’s program?

Amazon’s practical definition is straightforward: if the bank account entered in KDP is managed by a payment company instead of directly issued to you by a deposit-taking bank, Amazon considers you to be using a PSP.  This is a useful question to ask any provider before paying an account-opening fee:

“For Amazon KDP purposes, is this account opened directly in my name with a deposit-taking bank, or is it a PSP-managed account?”

Are all KDP authors allowed to use a PSP?

No.

Amazon says a KDP author is eligible to use a PSP if they use or switch to one and do not receive a request to use a deposit-taking bank.

If KDP tells you that only accounts opened directly with deposit-taking banks are allowed, Amazon considers you ineligible to use a PSP for that KDP account. This means a provider being on Amazon’s participating PSP list does not automatically guarantee that you personally can use it. There are two gates:

Gate 1: Is the PSP participating?

Gate 2: Is your KDP account eligible to use a PSP?

You need both.

What does KDP check when you add a bank account?

Amazon says it checks the banking information you provide to determine whether it can make payments to the account. The information may include:

  • account holder name

  • account number

  • routing number

  • IBAN

  • bank information

  • account holder address

Amazon tells authors to ensure that the account-holder name and address in KDP match the information their bank has on file. After you add bank details, Amazon says it checks the information within five business days. If it cannot validate the account, it sends additional information.  That five-day period is a validation window, not a promise that every account will be approved.

Why might Amazon KDP reject a bank account?

A rejected account does not automatically mean the account itself is fake or broken. It can mean the account does not meet one of KDP’s requirements.

Possible problem

What to check

Account-holder name mismatch

Compare the exact bank record with KDP

Wrong account number

Recheck the provider-issued details

Wrong routing number or IBAN

Confirm the official bank details

Unsupported payment method

Check Amazon’s table for that bank location

Unsupported PSP

Check Amazon’s current participating PSP list

PSP verification incomplete

Complete the provider’s required KYC

KDP requires a deposit-taking bank

Follow the exact KDP error message

Old bank details

Remove the existing account and add the correct details

Amazon’s troubleshooting page specifically documents errors involving invalid banking details, unsupported PSPs, additional verification and cases where only accounts at deposit-taking banks are allowed.

Do not keep guessing different bank details

Repeatedly changing one digit, shortening your name or trying a different address without understanding the error can create more confusion. Read the exact KDP message first.

Then identify which category the problem belongs to:

Identity mismatch? Bank-location problem? Incorrect routing information? PSP problem? KYC problem? Deposit-taking-bank requirement?

Solve that problem rather than testing random variations.

What should you do if KDP says your bank account is invalid?

Use this order:

  1. Read the exact error in Getting Paid.

  2. Compare your account-holder name with your bank or provider’s record.

  3. Check the bank location.

  4. Confirm which payment method KDP supports for that location.

  5. Determine whether the account is bank-issued or PSP-managed.

  6. If it is PSP-managed, check Amazon’s current participating PSP list.

  7. Confirm that your KDP account is eligible to use a PSP.

  8. Complete any pending KYC with the provider.

  9. Recheck the account number, routing number, IBAN and other details.

  10. Replace the bank account in KDP if necessary.

Amazon does not let you edit existing bank-account information in place. For security reasons, you need to delete the existing bank account and add the new banking details. If payments were already put on hold because of incorrect bank information, Amazon says held payments can be reissued once the updated bank details are verified.

What happens after you complete PSP KYC?

Amazon says the result from a participating PSP can take up to 24 hours to appear in KDP after the provider has completed and published its verification result.

If KDP still shows a verification warning after that period, Amazon advises contacting the PSP first to confirm that the verification result was sent to Amazon.

Amazon also says that if required PSP KYC is not completed within 45 days after its notification, the author may be unable to receive royalties to that account or publish until verification is completed or the payment method is switched to a deposit-taking bank.

Can you use Payoneer for Amazon KDP?

Amazon’s current participating PSP list includes Payoneer as of September 2026.  That does not mean every Payoneer account will automatically work for every KDP author. You still need to satisfy:

  • KDP eligibility to use a PSP

  • Payoneer’s required verification

  • correct bank details

  • account-holder matching

  • the KDP requirements shown in your account

If KDP tells you that only a deposit-taking bank is allowed, being on the participating PSP list does not override that instruction. Amazon’s current list also includes Wise and a number of other PSPs, but the list can change. Check Amazon rather than relying on an old blog post or YouTube tutorial.

Can you use a walllet USD account for Amazon KDP?

At the time of walllet’s latest internal test, we could not verify the walllet.com USD account as a supported payout account for Amazon KDP. We therefore do not recommend opening or using a walllet USD account specifically for KDP royalties unless compatibility is confirmed in a later update. That limitation is specific to KDP compatibility. A USD account can be useful for other international-payment use cases and still fail Amazon’s KDP requirements.

For KDP, compatibility comes first.

Should you open a USD account only for Amazon KDP?

Only after you confirm that Amazon can use it. Do not pay an issuance fee because an account advertises:

“US bank details.”
“USD receiving account.”
“Virtual dollar account.”
“Global account.”

None of those phrases proves KDP compatibility. Before opening the account, check:

  • KDP compatibility

  • account issuance fees

  • receiving fees

  • withdrawal or conversion costs

  • bank location

  • account ownership

  • PSP status

  • statement availability

  • account-confirmation availability

A cheap USD account that KDP cannot pay is not a cheap KDP solution. If your broader goal is receiving overseas salary or freelance income rather than KDP royalties specifically, see How to Receive Your Salary in USD in Nigeria Without Converting It All to Naira.

KDP payment account decision tree

Where is the bank account located?

Nigeria
→ Check Amazon’s current Nigeria payment table
→ For many marketplaces, current option is NGN wire

United States
→ Check USD direct-deposit eligibility

United Kingdom
→ Check GBP/EUR direct-deposit eligibility

Another country
→ Check Amazon’s payment table for that bank location

Then ask:

Was the account opened directly with a deposit-taking bank?

Yes → Check KDP validation requirements

No / payment company manages it
→ Treat it as a possible PSP account
→ Check participating PSP list
→ Check your KDP account’s PSP eligibility
→ Complete provider KYC
→ Add the details to KDP
→ Wait for KDP validation

Before opening any account for KDP royalties, verify the bank location, payment rail and PSP eligibility first. A USD account is useful for KDP only if Amazon can actually pay into it.

For KDP royalties, use only an account Amazon confirms as eligible. For freelance, salary, and other supported international income, walllet.com can help eligible users manage the rest of the journey: receive, hold, spend, convert, and cash out in Nigeria.
