You completed the project. The client approved it. Your dashboard shows earnings. Why isn’t the money in your account?
Because platform earnings, withdrawable funds, an initiated payout and a completed bank credit are different events. Freelance and creator platforms have their own balance rules, review periods, payout methods and geographic restrictions. The receiving account adds another layer.
This guide explains how to separate those stages, choose a withdrawal route and find out what happened when a payout does not arrive.
Understand the four stages of a platform payout
A platform payout usually passes through four stages.
1. Earned: Your work or monetization activity has generated a recorded amount.
2. Available: The platform has completed the required review, clearance or holding period, and the money can be withdrawn.
3. Sent: The platform or its payment provider has initiated or processed the selected payout.
4. Received: The destination provider has credited your account or balance, subject to its applicable conditions.
The terminology varies between platforms. One company’s “processed” may refer to a different operational event from another company’s “completed.” Use the timeline and transaction records shown in the platform you actually use.
How Upwork payouts work
Upwork distinguishes earnings that are in progress, under review, pending and available. The availability schedule depends on the contract type.
According to Upwork’s published payment guidance, standard hourly payments become available after the weekly billing and review cycle, while fixed-price milestone payments ordinarily pass through a five-day security period after client approval.
Eligibility for faster payments can change the applicable timeline. Withdrawal is a separate step. Before withdrawing, Upwork requires relevant tax information and a configured withdrawal method. The withdrawal methods shown to an individual freelancer can depend on their location and account setup.
Do not confuse an Upwork balance marked “Pending” with a bank transfer that was sent and failed to arrive. The first is an earnings-availability question. The second is a payment investigation.
How Fiverr withdrawals work
Fiverr separates earnings from completed freelance orders and certain other balances associated with purchases or refunds.
Only eligible withdrawable earnings can be paid out through the supported withdrawal methods. Fiverr’s published options include PayPal, bank transfer through Payoneer and a Payoneer account, with geographic and account restrictions.
Each method has its own limits, applicable fees and delivery expectations. If your earnings are not yet available, first check the order clearance status. If they are available but the withdrawal button is unavailable, check whether a recently changed payout method or account security requirement is delaying the withdrawal.
PayPal availability also depends on the country and the account’s ability to receive payments. Do not assume a method works for you because another freelancer can use it.
How Deel payouts work
Deel supports several withdrawal methods for eligible contractors, including bank transfers and certain external payment services. The available methods and currencies depend on the user’s circumstances and payment arrangement.
The important distinction is between the contractor’s Deel balance and the destination used to move money out. A contractor may prefer a local-currency bank payout, a supported foreign-currency account, or another eligible withdrawal route. The best method depends on the combined fee, conversion, delivery and destination restrictions. Some international bank payments can incur intermediary charges outside Deel’s own stated fee.
Check the current withdrawal quote before confirming the payment.
YouTube and creator-platform payouts
Google AdSense publishes a monthly payment cycle. Subject to meeting the threshold and having no payment holds, payments are generally issued between the 21st and 26th of the month. The actual delivery time depends on the payment method, banking arrangements and other applicable conditions.
That schedule belongs to Google’s payment program. It should not be applied automatically to Twitch, Patreon, Amazon KDP or other monetization platforms.
Creator income introduces another timeline: estimated revenue, finalized revenue, eligibility to be paid and actual payment issuance. Review receiving options and eligibility on walllet.com before changing a platform withdrawal.
Compare payout routes using the final amount
Suppose you have $1,000 available on a platform.
Option A pays directly into a local-currency bank account.
Option B sends USD into a compatible foreign-currency receiving account, after which you decide whether to convert or spend it.
Do not compare them using only the platform’s withdrawal charge.
For Option A, record the platform fee, exchange rate and local amount delivered.
For Option B, record the platform fee, receiving fee, any intermediary deduction, later conversion cost and withdrawal charge.
Also compare whether you can hold foreign-currency value and whether the receiving provider permits that specific platform’s deposits. A route that works for direct client payments is not automatically a valid payout destination for a marketplace.
What to do when a payout disappears between providers
First, identify where the money was last visible.
If it is still awaiting release on the platform, look at its availability date and any review notification.
If the platform shows it as withdrawn, collect the payout ID, transaction date, destination and payment status.
If a bank transfer was initiated, request the reference appropriate to the payment method.
If the destination rejected the transfer, obtain the return information before changing account details or requesting another payout.
Keep one record that shows:
Platform transaction ID → Withdrawal method → Date sent → Receiving account → Current status → Final credit or return
This makes it easier to determine which provider should investigate the issue.

Check platform-specific payout rules
Creator and freelance platforms each set their own thresholds, schedules, currencies and supported withdrawal methods. A receiving account that accepts a bank transfer might not be eligible for a particular platform’s payment workflow.
Trace the payout in stages
Separate earnings balance, approved payout, payment sent and final bank credit. Capture each status and transaction reference before escalating a missing payment.
Maintain a fallback route
If a platform permits it, establish a second compliant withdrawal method before a payment is urgent. Recheck account ownership and country eligibility when changing details.
Identify where the payout currently sits
Earnings, available balance, withdrawal initiated and recipient credited are four different events. Look for the last confirmed stage before contacting the platform or your receiving provider.
Test destination eligibility before changing a payout
A USD receiving account may allow ordinary transfers but prohibit particular marketplace payouts. Check the platform withdrawal options and the recipient provider’s accepted sender types independently.
Build a payout setup you can verify
Before depending on a new receiving account, check the payout methods shown in your platform and the receiving provider’s current eligibility rules.
